Recently, I ran some re-introductory games of X-Wing for my gaming group. Everyone has played before, but it has been some years. So many in fact, that the last time they played was first edition. To keep things easy, I decided to simplify matters and only fly pilot cards, no upgrades at all. Ordinarily I would say this logic is rather sound and helps avoid feels bad moments, but in this case I actually think it was a mistake.

Gaming | The Treasure Vault Mordheim Battle Report
What with vacations, getting covid, family visiting, and my kid learning to crawl, it has been a busy time. Not so much that I couldn't get any gaming in, but enough for me not to have the time to sit down and just hash out this post. I've managed to write this in bits and pieces though, enough now that I can finally hit that damn publish button. So without further belaboring, we have the end of a Mordheim campaign.

After surviving a rip-roaring boating adventure, my Lizardmen have made landfall in a strange part of town. Stranger still, the leader seems inexorably drawn towards the large, spooky structure in the center of the square. Undeterred, the rest of the warband follows them in as they trudge along. What awaits for our intrepid heroes....

Another day, another Mordheim game. Now that the warbands have made it inside the city, it's time to do some good ol'fashioned looting. Treasure tokens have been scattered across the face of the map, and so have all of the warbands. Each model had to be placed down one at a time, resulting in a very scattered deployment. Which made for some mayhem right from the start!

Now that my life has settled enough that I can venture out solo again, it's time for another round of Mordheim gaming. I'm trying out the Lizardmen warband this playthrough, which debuted in the Lustria setting for the game. Personally, they don't quite fit the vibe of Mordheim to me, but I wanted to try out one of the more esoteric warbands out there, plus I already had all the minis ready to go since Seraphon is my main Age of Sigmar army.

It’s long been a goal of mine to attend a wargame convention. After a few false starts (thanks COVID), I’ve finally managed to get myself to one, and all it took was moving to a city that had one. A small one, but it counts. The San Diego Historical Miniature Wargamers Club (SDHMWC) put on the fourth annual Advance!, an ostensibly historical wargaming convention, but there’s room for other types of games of the more fictional bent. This was a one day event in a local community center, but there was still plenty to do.

We find ourselves back in the ruined wastelands of Hive Secundus as the Necromunda campaign continues. Some of my misgivings about the game have been slightly addressed this go around. Some. Because in this game, we were playing a high octane game driving about on motorcycles ala Mad Max.

Now before we get down to the fact that I'm embroiled in a Necromunda campaign, yes, I finished the last Mordheim campaign. No I didn't post that here because I forgot to, and now I have photos for a game that I don't really remember. So instead of me rambling about it, know that Chaos won and I finally managed to get my Undead warband cooking. On to the subject at hand: Necromunda. My game group has lots of Necromunda players, and at the closer of the Mordheim campaign it was decided that we would all try a Hive Secundus game. After about 4 games, I can confidently say that I don't like the game very much at all.

No, the warbands weren't given a list of clues to go hunting about the city. They had to find a chest, hidden amongst the ruins, and keep the other warband from finding it. This time my Restless Dead warband was up against the Pit Fighters.

The warbands have all grown mighty in the last few weeks, and so we look to bring this open campaign to a close. Mostly because now we know who the main core of players are, and so we can start a proper map campaign. But also for the fun of it and as a chance for everyone to try new warbands! And what better way to close it off than with a 4 player free-for-all winner-takes-all deathmatch.

The Mordheim campaign continues apace, this time pitting my wily Eshin warband vs the horrifically whimsical Cult of the Possessed. The objective for this game was Occupy, where teams had to have at least one unit in the footprint of a building with no enemy models contesting. Luckily for me, everyone survived last time, but unfortunately no one gained enough XP to have any new skills or changes to their baseline stats. So in the warband went to claim ruined buildings for what I'm sure are nefarious reasons.
