What with vacations, getting covid, family visiting, and my kid learning to crawl, it has been a busy time. Not so much that I couldn't get any gaming in, but enough for me not to have the time to sit down and just hash out this post. I've managed to write this in bits and pieces though, enough now that I can finally hit that damn publish button. So without further belaboring, we have the end of a Mordheim campaign.
This is actually the first campaign I've been able to see through to completion since having the kid, so this feels pretty good. The battle was a 6 person fight to reach the top of the city, where a treasure vault sits, just waiting to be plundered. The top 2 players started the game on opposite sides of the table. Then the next 2 (of which I was a part of) would come in to the table, whereupon they would pick which side to aid. Then the next 2 would come in and do the same. This could have opened up a very lopsided game, but I play with gentleman, so once all the players were on the board we had a sporting 3 vs 3.
Just to make things that little bit more spicy, the table also had dice scattered throughout with special effects. If a unit got too close, any unit within 3" on a roll of 2-6 would take D3 damage. Buuut, on a 1, any unit within 3" would get +1 strength and +1 attack. I was lucky and got this result twice. I was even luckier that this happened to my Kroxigor, which was already something of a blender.
I'm not going to go into too much more detail, as it's a fairly typical rush to the middle and beat the pulp out of each other, but suffice to say it was a very fun game.
My Kroxigor and the opponent's troll did get into some fisticuffs (finally), and it was a glorious battle, with my Kroxigor emerging the victor. Late game Lizardmen are no joke, able to dish out a ton of damage while mitigating any that they take, since they have a native save which can be improved with a shield.
When all was said and done, my team were victorious, claiming all of the gold at the top of the city, while managing to murder most of the opposing side. We all had a fantastic time, but we've played so much Mordheim that we're going to let the system rest for a little bit.
We're messing around with a few games right now, including some board games, but it looks like Frostgrave is turning into a favorite, so we might be playing that for the foreseeable future.
