Age of Sigmar Deathrattle marching across swamps

Hobby | La Princesa

Uh what a whirlwind of a time it's been for me, I won't get into details, but I will say that it's been very busy here. I've finally gotten around to finishing La Princesa, a model I started way back in August after I wrapped up the Lake Erie project. Hopefully, the next thing I do won't take anywhere near as long. But back to the subject at hand.

Warlord Games Black Seas La Princesa

La Princesa is a Spanish 6th rate frigate, the smallest of the rated ships according to the British system. She's about equivalent in size to the famous Surprise from Master & Commander if that helps at all. She's a resin model with metal sternplate and figurehead. The masts I took from a plastic 5th rate frigate kit, but I shortened them down a tad to make them look more at home and help distinguish between the 6th and 5th rates a little better.

La Princesa is noted for her Pacific voyages, making it quite far north. She was built for extended cruises, with ample room for supplies to help reinforce settlements. This is represented in game by her ability to set up gun emplacements, of which I have precisely zero painted.

I didn't quite use the "official" Spanish paint recipe, as I find that it can be a bit too red. I instead opted for a brown with a red tone to it, which gives it almost a pink hue. In person it looks more similar to an unpainted wood look, which I figured would be the case for a ship known for her long travels away from any friendly ports. I still wanted the stern to have a nice pop of color though, so I used a very saturated teal with some highlights to draw out the detail further.

The kit as a whole is a fun bit of modeling. The Warlord resin is quite good, although it has a ton of flash at the base that requires some cleanup. One of these days I'll have to make a post of how I prep these models for painting, it's actually quite involved when compared to normal 28 mm models.

Anyways, hope to not be so long next time, and now to finally catch up with all of your blogs.
