Essential Equipment List

A one stop shop list for the minis, tools, paints, and other stuff that I use to make my hobby stuff. Links below with explanations. Everything below are items I have purchased myself.

Miniatures/Books

Direct Sales

Games Workshop - Creators of Warhammer, can buy direct from their website. UK based company.

Fireforge Games - Have several different miniatures lines, including historical and fantasy. Spanish based company.

Osprey Publishing - Creators of excellent games like Frostgrave, Oathmark, and Gaslands. I highly recommend their skirmish rulesets, they're very creative and quite fun. I purchased the Frostgrave and Gaslands rule books from Amazon.

Dungeons & Dragons - Owned by Wizards of the Coast, this is the quintessential role playing game. Currently in its 5th Edition.

3rd Party Sellers

Frontline Gaming - One of my favorites, offer a 15% discount on GW models and paints, with fast shipping. They also sell second-hand models at a discount.

Ebay - The source of a lot of my army, you want cheap Warhammer, this is where you get it. Mostly bidding based and you may have to do some work to fix up some models. Considered Ebay rescues.

Paints

GW Paints - Known as Citadel, they come in pots. Can be annoying, but I really like their shades and technical paints.

Army Painter Starter Set - A cheaper alternative, most of my models are painted with Army Painter. They come in dropper bottles which I think are easier to use.

Vallejo Starter Set - Good coverage and vibrant colors. Their metallics are especially good.

Vallejo Grey Primer - Deserves its own entry. 95% of my models are primed with this, and it's just as good getting brushed on as with an airbrush.

Vallejo Texture Paint - What I've replaced my sand and paint mixture with. A much cheaper option to GW texture paints.

Paint Storage Rack - I had too many paints lying around, so I got this MDF shelf which can hold Army Painter dropper models and Citadel paint pots. Also some spots for paint brushes.

Testors Spray Lacquer - The standard for matte varnish. Makes a nice, dull coat over the model that protects it very well.

Tools

Master Airbrush - The airbrush that I use, mostly for priming. Good baseline for learning, although I still struggle with clogs from time to time.

Airbrush Cleaning Tools - My airbrush kept clogging so I got these tools. I mostly use the brushes, but the pot has a nice stand for the airbrush itself.

Photo Backdrop - The background I use for very large dioramas or terrain photography.

Loctite Super Glue - Far and away my favorite super glue. I almost always make it to the end of the bottle, unlike other brands where it dries out before I can make it.

Army Painter Clippers  - Comfortable and good for clipping minis off of sprues.

Basic Tool Kit  - Basically everything you need to start modelling, from clippers to sand bars. Also comes in a nice little box. I still use these tools daily, even the clippers once they went dull as they can help clamp things together.

Pin Vise - I don't know why I suffered without this for so long. Excellent for drilling holes into plastic, resin, or metal, for when you want to magnetize or pin a model.

Terrain/Basing

Archon Studio - You've seen Dungeons & Lasers and Ramparts on this blog, and they provide a lot of the terrain I have. They are a Polish company, so shipping can take a while, but they are working on getting some North American distributors.

Woodland Scenics Water Effects - What I use for all of my water effects. Takes a while to dry and can't be used in thick layers, just FYI.

Woodland Scenics Rock Molds - I use plaster in these to make some realistic rock effects for terrain and basing.

MDF Terrain Bases - Nice selection of random MDF base shapes. I got these off of Etsy.

Miniature Palm Trees - The palm trees I use for Lizardmen/Seraphon terrain.

Assorted Aquarium Plants - Make excellent jungle terrain. Very glossy, so you will need to use a varnish spray to tone it down.

Battle Systems Fantasy Battlefield - Great high density cardboard terrain.

Battle Systems Fantasy Citadel - Same as above, but now a castle.

Miscellaneous

Detolf Shelf - The standard for displaying your minis. I upgraded mine with extra shelving.

Detolf Shelf Legs - I used these to get a little extra height and some extra storage space beneath my Detolf.

Extra Shelving Parts - You can use these cable clamps to thread rod between the Detolf stands, which lets you put extra shelves in.

3D Solutech PLA Filament - The PLA filament I use for all of my 3D printing. It's reliable and cheap.

I hope that helps you out in your hobby journey! Let me know in the comments if there is anything else you'd like to see added to the list.
