Apologies to all my readers and the wonderful folks who leave comments on here and post on their own blogs. This has been perhaps one of the busiest times of my life since probably my university years. Sometimes it comes down to such little time that I have to pick between writing on the blog or even getting any of the hobbying done. I have managed to sneak in a few projects though, like this batch of terrain for Black Powder. I even got a game in, but that's for another post.
Unfortunately for myself, I didn't complete more of these little buildings in time for the Season of Scenery challenge. Nonetheless, they are done for myself, so a win is still a win. These 3 buildings are a continuation of my previous post, where I started with 15mm ACW. They're MDF buildings from Sarissa Precision. More precisely, a dutch style barn, a stable barn, and a house.
Well it happened. I have, ironically after posting about it not too long ago, met the requirements for truly starting historical wargaming. There is a little Space Dino on the way. They have timed it perfectly with my local game store's anniversary sale, and so I scooped up a little something. Something about the best Civil War. And of course, with the little time remaining in the Season of Scenery challenge, I had to get some terrain in. It can't all be vehicles.
The Silverlight Sea is a major aspect of life for all of the cultures surrounding it. As such, many of the peoples have adopted various mythos and customs in relation to the sea.
This particular seaside shrine is common of the Skal Tribes who inhabit the northeastern corner of the Heldeni Empire. Not strictly a religious practice, these mementos dot the treacherous coasts in memory of lost sailors and adventurers.
I'll be moving soon for work, and because of that I've been going through the many, many shelves of hobby stuff that I have. This has brought a lot of half-finished projects back up to the surface, and one of those was some old Hirst Arts bricks glued to a circle of cork. I figured that it would be a nice planter in the center of a market center, and I got halfway through that idea before it sat doing nothing for some years. Well I've been picking through the latest Dungeons & Lasers stuff from their Encounters Kickstarter, and they had this nice tree that I thought would be perfect for this project.
After plucking the lowest hanging fruit for a jungle terrain joke, the quality of the rest of this post can only get better. After a streak of painting miniatures, I wanted to pivot to making some good old fashioned terrain again. I'll be moving soon, and as part of that I've been taking inventory of what I have. I found some MDF bases lying around and some palm trees I bought an eternity ago, so I though why not make some jungle terrain. Throw in some bits from Archon Studios and Reaper Miniatures and I was ready to make it specifically into Lizardmen/Seraphon terrain, but it could just as easily be used for games of Dungeons & Dragons.
Another year gone by and here we are at the end, which means it's time for the annual Year In Review for the Space Dinosaur Miniatures. This has been a good year, with Covid waning allowing for more activities, but I still got a good amount of minis done.

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with miniature photography. On the one hand, capturing the details of a well painted mini is absolutely important, and requires a white or black background to get those crisp photos. On the other hand, that background is boring as all get out. Minis are cool, but minis belong on the battlefield looking cool. They are part of the scene, and that conveys a story to the viewer that you don't completely get from a static, solid color background. In this post, I'll show you how to take cool miniature photographs, even if you don't have your own studio.
