Age of Sigmar Deathrattle marching across swamps

Gaming | Mordheim Tunnel Escape

Now that my life has settled enough that I can venture out solo again, it's time for another round of Mordheim gaming. I'm trying out the Lizardmen warband this playthrough, which debuted in the Lustria setting for the game. Personally, they don't quite fit the vibe of Mordheim to me, but I wanted to try out one of the more esoteric warbands out there, plus I already had all the minis ready to go since Seraphon is my main Age of Sigmar army.

Mordheim Lizardmen Warband

My warband leader is a skink priest leading a trusty band of skink skirmishers and saurus warriors. No kroxigors yet because I don't have that kind of gold ready to go. With only four heroes to start I won't be able to generate a lot of gold either until some of my henchmen get Lad's Got Talent upgrades into heroes.

The mission was a 3 player free-for-all, with the goal to explore each building until a tunnel into Mordheim is found. The player with the most models to make it into the tunnel would be the victor.

I was going up against Night Goblins and Tileans. The Night Goblins immediately sent a troll my way while the Tileans tried to flank around the side.

The Night Goblins found the tunnel after a few rounds of searching and started to pull back their forces to take advantage of the situation. Meanwhile, the Tileans were striking at the goblins with all the force of a limp noodle, only managing to kill a single lowly goblin. This is par for the course with this player sadly for him, he just needs to get better at rolling dice.

Meanwhile my Saurus hero got absolutely stomped into the dirt by a troll after doing absolutely nothing to it in return. My saurus henchmen was at least able to keep the troll distracted for long enough to get the main body of my force away and towards the building with the tunnel.

Right at the end I was able to use one of those rules that you think is so situational it's essentially useless. Aquatic lets a unit enter water features with no movement penalty as well as imparting a cover bonus. Well all my skinks were aquatic, which let them pile into this pond and get cover saves right out in the open. They then proceeded to gang up on 2 poor Tileans, causing the warband to route. I was able to get 7 total models into the tunnel, but I was beat by 1 as the goblins got in 8. Still I had a good time and I'm digging how this warband plays.

  1. Great to see a Lizardman warband, hopefully you can get enough gold soon for the Kroxigor, as that will beef up your list. Sounds like you had a good game overall, and hopefully the Saurus weren't too damaged at the end.

    1. Yes I'm really looking forward to getting some more heavy muscle into the list. I actually lucked out and my Saurus hero is immune to fear so that will be quite helpful.

    1. Yes! We're getting better at making these multi-player games more interesting and finding ways to make sure games don't devolve into middle of the map scrums.

    1. Haha right! I thought what's the point of this, it'll never see the light of day, I'm glad I was wrong.

  4. Lovely looking game and sounds like it was fun in spite of the warband not being your first choice!

    1. Yeah we're proud with the terrain we've amassed to make a good looking game. Lizardmen were way more fun than I was expecting, I'm digging it.
