Age of Sigmar Deathrattle marching across swamps

Gaming | Barge Battle Royale

Mordheim has now taken to the high seas! Or to a nearby lake/river, I don't really know the geography of the area. Regardless, the warbands are all on barges now. The mission is simple; to be the last team floating.

We had some neat little rules for this match up. The barges basically used the movement rules from the Old World, but with the caveat that they always had to move 4" forward. If you had models 1" from the edge of the barge, they could sacrifice their action for the turn to add 1" of movement on a roll of 4+. But, if they got hit in any way, they would have to roll an initiative check or be flung from the barge.

Once again, my aquatic rule was highly relevant, seeing as practically the whole map was covered in water. I decided against using it too much though, as I didn't want to cheese the game in a way that wasn't fun for other players. The first few turns were spent maneuvering into position.

I attempted to ram an enemy barge, forgetting that a large number of my models are low initiative. It didn't matter even if they did have high initiative, as I ended up using all my luck here and rolled a ton of 6's, sending a few models into the drink and tipping the rest over. For a moment it looked like I was in a bad spot, but my lone Saurus warrior held the corner of the barge keeping the deluge of enemy models back.

On the other side of the map, a lone troll made it over to an enemy barge and began to absolutely wreak havoc upon those poor models. By this point in the game, most warbands had been reduced by 25%, so route checks were starting to happen. Luckily for the humans, the night goblin warband had to cut and run before the troll could do too much damage.

In a stroke of luck for me the enemy barge warband also broke. At the very end of the game it was just me and one other barge floating around each other out of range, so we decided to just do roll offs for route tests. I ended up losing, but got second place overall. This was a very fun game, always love trying out new ways to play the same set of rules.
