The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is done and dusted, and I was able to hit my goal with exclusively Black Seas models. Turns out you get a lot of points for submitting naval miniatures on account of all the extra stuff you have to do. For my last post, I took some glamor photos, and well I enjoyed them so much that I wanted them to be here on my own blog as well.
And I'm starting with what is my favorite photo of the bunch, hands down. To me, it's very evocative of Age of Sail oil paintings, a squadron sailing inline ahead. The foremost ship is the Constitution, followed by the Constellation, and finally an unnamed generic schooner.
The Royal Navy are in the same formation, simply sailing away this time. In the lead is a generic ship rigged sloop-of-war, the brig Speedy, and the cutter Little Belt.
The Spanish got a total of 1 ship in the challenge, a generic 1st Rate that I painted to look like the Santa Ana. I'm tempted to go back and paint some lettering on her stern to make it official, but at the same time I'm in no rush there. From certain angles the ship looks quite red thanks to her gunports, which I think is a neat little feature. The second photo I imagine some poor crew in a much smaller ship is staring up at the stern of a mighty vessel as it slowly turns to annihilate them.
The French have the L'Hermione and a generic large cutter. The cutter is actually a Hagen Miniatures miniature (lol), and this photo gives a nice sense of scale between the two lines.
Finally, an action shot to show off my xebec. The game does come with cotton to represent cannon fire, and I wish I had used some here. For the future. Here we have the Constellation from earlier serving as our antagonist/protagonist depending on who you root for.

T'was a great effort in the Challenge Raul, the ships are little works of art. Best start prepping for the next one in December!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray! Ah December sounds so far from now, I'll probably have a whole new genre to work on by then!
DeleteWell done for hitting your challenge goal, and some fantastic work on all your ships, the first picture stole the show, should have saved that one till last ! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm happy I was able to even hit the 200 points I set out for myself, it was dicey for a little bit. Haha I thought about that, but I was too excited and I wanted it to be the cover photo for the post.
DeleteExcellent job on all of these! you collection was larger than I thought. 😁
ReplyDeleteI thought the first pic was a poster....
Hardly a filler post! Lovely work, I thought the first picture was a reference that you were working from until I read the caption! I always enjoy the challenge when I've done it in the past!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Those are truly beautiful. It took me a couple of seconds to notice that the first pic wasn't a classic painting, it is really top notch
