Because being technically right is the best kind of right, Speedy does not get the designation HMS, as she is not a ship, as she does not have 3 square rigged masts. So she is His Majesty's Brig Speedy. This ship, and her captain, are famous for punching way above their weight class. Which is ironic, as Warlord Games decided to cast this in all metal, making her incredibly heavy for her size when compared with the other ships I've painted so far. So an extra coating of matte varnish to keep from chipping.
Not much to say here about the colors. It's the basic Royal Navy color scheme I've done before. Instead of using an orange wash though, I used Soft Tone, which is a light sepia color. It gives it a nice subtle variation, and expands the options when it comes to yellow, as it seems that yellow is the favorite color of every captain in the Napoleonic era.
I did do a slight modification. I cut the gun ports out on the stern, which were originally only suggested with some sculpted lines. I do wish that I had made the mizzenmast taller. The model, as is, is technically a ketch, and being technically wrong is the worst kind of wrong. All of the reference artwork shows her with a taller mizzenmast, as she's a proper brig (technically brig-sloop - look, there's a lot of technicalities with tall ships and I'm in over my head here). Ah well, perhaps in the future she'll get a refit.
All the same, she looks good, and is different enough from the plastic brig to be noticeable when playing, which is nice.

Great looking ship SD, one of the big reasons I've never done historical, is trying to make everything accurate, would drive me nuts ! LOL I think you are doing a fantastic job with all these tall ships.
