Hobby | Black Seas American Brig

With the Necromunda campaign wrapping up soon and a lull in the action as we look towards another Mordheim campaign, I’ve been venturing back into the world of Black Seas. I have another brig painted up, this time for the American side of things. However, I didn’t paint this up in the “official” US Navy color scheme, instead opting for a more generic look befitting a privateer or a merchant ship pressed into service with the fledgling navy. 

I loosely based the color scheme off of Lady Washington, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. Even though I'm aiming for a semblance of historical accuracy, I plan to use this for the War of 1812 period, which means that the ensign I picked is technically wrong. But I love the look of the Betsy Ross flag and so on it went. It just means that I can use it in Revolutionary War settings as well, as it should fit right in. 

I also plan that each nation will have some portions of the paint job that will serve to unify the disparate looks. For the United States Navy, that means green for the interior walls of the hull. It's subtle, but it's there. I was also pleased with the deck and hull colors, which were achieved with Army Painter Desert Yellow and Vallejo Orange Brown, respectively, that was then glazed over with Army Painter Soft Tone. The off-white of the lower hull is GW Pallid Wych Flesh. 

Now I have the first fair matchup between ships, as my little brigs can go at it with each other. I think the standardized military color scheme of the Royal Navy brig contrasts nicely, and these will make for some excellent small single ship actions.
